Sick As A Dog

Lily got sick over the weekend. She kind of scared us. She was tired and depressed and threw up Saturday night. Sunday she had a bit more energy but later the night she acted unwell again. Monday, same goes. Then after midnight into Tuesday she started coughing but it sounded like choking. See video below. This was the scariest part. Dan stayed up with her all night to make sure she she wasn't going to choke and that morning I took her to the vet. Waiting for the clinic to open, I sat with Lily on the floor of our living room. She was exhausted but too scared to lay her head down because each and every time she did she would begin a fit of coughing. At 8 we barged in the clinic and the vet's nurse got to hear my laundry list of symptoms and took her on immediately.

We found out she had ingested a protozoa from stagnant water. We think it was from her unclean water bowl or a tub of water in the backyard. Poor thing. The coughing or hacking comes from her trying to deal with an influx of mucus caused by the infection. We have her medicated now and enjoying wet dog food. She still is having a mucus problem but she is in better spirits.

Look at that face. Getting back to normal is great!
